pack gear.
6:30am Breakfast: A delicious hot breakfast will be served.
Remember to pick up your sack lunch.
8:00am Departure: The ride today will be 18 miles. Leaving camp the
trail follows an old wagon trail called “The Devil’s Slide.” When reaching the
top, an incredible view meets the eye of the vast Wyoming country side. This
provides a wonderful photo opportunity. Many sheepherder monuments can be seen
and it is claimed that the sheepherders erected these out of boredom while
tending their sheep. Others claim that they were erected as landmarks by both
surveyors and landowners. The trail continues and crosses “Cottonwood Pass” to
“Lysite Mountain.” Another three Wyoming counties are traversed; Natrona,
Fremont, and Hot Springs County. The trail passes to the south of an area known
as “Bate’s Battlefield.” The site of the last and only recorded Indian battle in
the Big Horn Basin. The trail follows through sagebrush flats until it drops
down through a canyon in a lush green meadow along a creek known as “Bridger
Creek.” This is the summer place of Victor & George Bloomquist and Mike & Kathy
McCoy. Upon arrival in camp, tend to your horse, set up tents, and prepare for
supper. The creek provides a wonderful place to clean up. This will be the
campsite for the next two nights and day.
